Situation
Universal Studios Orlando interior parking garage was illuminated with fluorescent T8 lamps and antiquated vapor tight fixtures with no controls. These fixtures were operated at 100% light levels 24 hours a day and provided very poor light uniformity throughout the space. The energy consumption and maintenance challenges had long been a problem for the customer.
Action
FRM worked with the electrical and sustainability teams at the site to develop a plan around the fixture that would provide the best, most cost-effective solution. The team was able to provide a complete photometric layout of the new fixtures demonstrating the improved lighting performance and increased energy savings by incorporating controls, which reduced light levels when the space was unoccupied. Additionally, all necessary training was provided to the site maintenance group to aid in installation and controls commissioning.
Impact
- 50+% savings versus the original lamp-based fixtures.
- Increased uniformity across the space, providing a more consistently lit garage while reducing dark spots.
- Simple controls integration which allowed for proper zoning and reduced energy consumption of up to an additional 25% when the space was unoccupied.
- Reduced lamp replacement and maintenance costs.
Delivered Value
The FRM team was able to provide a right-sized solution, proper design, and attentive project management. Executing coordination between the manufacturer and the end customer provided a seamless experience in improving safety and sustainability a very critical space.
