Situation
Transmission expansion due to an influx of new generation, primarily solar, in new locations in a rural county. The existing transmission grid was not designed for electricity to enter the system from many new points. Power is now flowing in different directions and at different volumes than originally planned. This creates congestion, inefficiencies, and reliability concerns on the transmission system. FRM’s solution was working with GT and selling 230kV steel transmission poles.
Action
- Plant tours for Utility to approve manufacturing and quality control processes.
- Small test order where FRM coordinated discussions with Manufacturer and Georgia Transmission Corporation’s engineering team, quality control department, and project managers.
- After successfully delivering a small test order, we bid $13 million for the project, which took a few weeks of FRM perseverance and ingenuity to meet Georgia Transmissions requested lead times.
Delivered Value
GTC trust in FRM allowed for an expedited approval process of a new vendor for GTC. Once approved, FRM’s relationship with the customer allowed Grid Structures to bid on a major project where FRM then helped Grid Structures adjust manufacturing slots in order to win the bid on lead time.
